Library Assistant I/Library Assistant (Learning and Research Services) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 532081)

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our Learning and Research Services team to provide quality learning and research support at the University Libraries.

The Role 

Reporting to the Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services), the appointee will focus on research data and scholarly communication services and fulfill the responsibilities as follows:

• Provide support for library research services throughout the research lifecycle;
• Retrieve bibliometric data from citation databases, e.g. Scopus, SciVal, Web of Science, Incites, and others;
• Deploy technology to analyze and visualize data from diverse internal and external research support platforms;
• Assist in research data services and data literacy programs;
• Explore emerging tools for information literacy including AI literacy, create web-based guides, and deliver training sessions; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Qualities

• A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science and related disciplines;
• Relevant experience in an academic library or equivalent experience in working with learning and research processes is preferred;
• Knowledge of research life cycle or experience in conducting research;
• Demonstrated skills in data science, with knowledge and experience in Python or R, BI tools (such as Power BI);
• Familiarity with and experience in utilizing citation databases will be an advantage;
• Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and
• Highly motivated with willingness to learn new technologies and tools.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment at the rank of Library Assistant.

What we offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
