Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme (CLEP) in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 532259), to commence as soon as possible and no later than August 2025, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

At the Chinese Language Enhancement Programme (CLEP), our primary objective is to provide students with the essential Chinese language skills needed for their academic and professional journeys.  We offer tailor-made, discipline-specific practical Chinese language courses to undergraduates from all faculties across the university.  These courses, aligned with the university's strategic goals, aim not only to enhance students’ command of the Chinese language, but also to foster their career and academic development, paving the way for their future success.  For more information about the CLEP, please visit https://www.clep.hku.hk.

Applicants should possess the following:

  • A Master’s degree, preferably a doctoral degree, in Chinese or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years’ post-qualification teaching experience at the tertiary level.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum innovation, evidence in undertaking leadership roles in programme administration, and potential for scholarship in teaching.
  • The capability of designing and teaching practical Chinese courses in accordance with the University’s strategic plan.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as proficiency in Putonghua.

Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following supplementary qualifications:

  • A portfolio in information technology and /or AI applications in language teaching.
  • A strong background in teaching Chinese culture and academic networking.
  • Experience in applying for and managing teaching development funding.
  • A high level of competence in written English.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach and assess a range of CLEP courses and participate in academic advising for students.
  • Plan and coordinate the teaching and related activities for a particular section.
  • Support the CLEP Director and Assistant Programme Director in team and programme development, and mentor new teachers and junior staff where applicable.
  • Design and oversee teaching development projects and enhancements to existing projects.
  • Liaise with other institutions on curriculum development, teaching innovation, and the provision of similar courses where appropriate.
  • Serve on committees at the School/ Centre and Faculty levels.
  • Fulfill any other ancillary activities as assigned by the Head of School or the Programme Director.
