Join Hong Kong University Press (HKU Press) as we celebrate our upcoming 70th anniversary in 2026! We are seeking a dynamic Digital Publication Technical Assistant to enrich our digital collections. If you have a passion for academic publishing, especially on digital publishing, we would love for you to join our journey! Reporting to Digital Publishing Manager and Production Manager, the appointee will manage a variety of digital publishing and marketing tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate instructions and coordinate metadata and file delivery with external vendors
- Prepare files for delivery to multiple print-on-demand and eBook vendors according to specifications provided by Digital Publishing Manager and Production Manager
- Prepare subsidiary rights promotional materials (catalogs/fliers) for Beijing, Taipei, and Frankfurt book fairs
- Support bookshop operations and external marketing events, and Open Access online innovations
- Assist with data entry and database management
- Assist with backlist digitization
- Support OBHK bilingual platform expansion and other digital publishing initiatives
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- A recognized degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience in the publishing industry or relevant marketing graphic design fields.
- Highly professional fluency in spoken English and Cantonese, as well as fluency in written English and traditional Chinese required; moderate proficiency in spoken Putonghua and written simplified Chinese highly desirable
- Knowledge of eBook creation in multiple formats and offset printing standards highly desirable
- Intermediate to expert-level user of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat)
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and XML, digital graphic design and basic typesetting skills, and experience with other emerging electronic formats highly desirable
Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as Clerk II.
