Assistant Lecturer in the School of Innovation serving the role of design specialist of the School (Ref.: 532412) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in Design, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline, along with at least one year’s instructional experience in digital and material technologies in practice and/or education. They should be proficient in the use of prototyping machines such as robotics, 3D printers, laser cutters, electronic stations, CNC milling machines, as well as digital prototyping and creation tools, including the use of generative AI. They should possess good experience in designing and creating mechatronic products, contraptions, prototypes or crafts. They should also be self-initiated, be able to work independently, and have a good command of written and spoken Chinese and English. Preference will be given to applicants with industrial experience in product design and/or creative art while possessing a strong foundation in engineering technologies.
The appointee will perform academic and research-based duties including teaching, writing grant proposals and applying for funding for new equipment and initiatives; play a leading role in operating the prototyping workshop; assist in developing students’ hands-on skills; address practical problems during project prototyping; and provide technical, logistical and pedagogical support to teachers, students and researchers. The appointee will be expected to work collaboratively with teachers, supporting staff, and students.
