About the opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to join Prof Joseph Blais’ research team at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. The Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy has many collaborative research projects with other departments, teaching hospitals, universities and the pharmaceutical industry. As a research assistant, you will partake in research using real-world electronic health records from Hong Kong and other regions, gaining skills in pharmacoepidemiology, statistical programming, critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and scientific communication. These skills are highly transferable to roles in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, public health, and drug regulatory agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork at hospitals and outpatient clinics, support participant recruitment, administer structured questionnaires, conduct research interviews (in Cantonese and/or English), coordinate with site supervisors and pharmacists, and handle informed consent procedures and related documentation
- Support and participate in pharmacoepidemiology, drug utilization and medication adherence research
- Assist in the writing and registration of study protocols
- Conduct literature searches, retrieve scientific articles, manage references, and perform data extraction from research studies
- Conduct data analysis and prepare figures and tables for research manuscripts, presentations and reports
- Perform data entry and assist with data management
- Support the preparation and submission of grant proposal, research proposals, analysis plans, and ethics applications etc.
- Support administrative and project management tasks, including preparing reports, liaising with project staff and data custodians
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification preferably in epidemiology, public health, health sciences (e.g., pharmacy, medicine, nursing), biostatistics (data science), economics, social sciences, or related disciplines
- A strong commitment to integrity and personal responsibility
- Great organizational skills
- Superb attention to detail
- An excellent command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in spoken and written Chinese (Cantonese) is preferred.
- Interest in developing research, data analysis and scientific communication skills

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
