The Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong is now inviting applications for the position of Part-time Research Assistant I/II to support a collaborative research project between the University of Hong Kong and the University of Chicago, funded by the HKU Jockey Club Enterprise Sustainability Global Research Institute.

Project Overview

The project is a pilot study exploring climate-related environmental exposures among Hong Kong populations, with a focus on climate change and health. This position offers a valuable opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a research career in environmental epidemiology.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the pilot study. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing study advertisement materials (e.g., flyers, leaflets)
  • Recruiting and liaising with research participants
  • Supporting fieldwork and participant engagement
  • Performing administrative and logistical tasks related to the study
  • Assisting with other research activities as assigned

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or above in Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related discipline (current students are welcome to apply)
  • Strong interest in environmental epidemiology and public health research
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese; proficiency in Cantonese is a must
  • Willingness to conduct field-based recruitment and community engagement alongside supervisors
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, outgoing personality will be a significant advantage, particularly for engaging with research participants in community settings
  • Familiarity with research tools such as Qualtrics and MS Excel
  • Proficiency in Chinese typing and basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Photoshop)
  • Prior experience in participant recruitment or quantitative research is an advantage

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.
