Senior Technical Officer (Physical and Analytical Chemistry) in the Department of Chemistry (Ref.: 533013) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a related field, with at least 5 years’ hands-on experience in emission spectroscopy and in the use of femtosecond and/or nanosecond lasers for ultrafast time-resolved transient absorption and emission measurements, either in a tertiary institution or the industrial sector.  Applicants should have in-depth knowledge and extensive experience with these spectroscopic techniques, including sample preparation, data acquisition and analysis, as well as the operation and maintenance of laser systems and other instruments such as UV-VIS/NIR spectrophotometers, emission spectrometers, ultrafast time-resolved transient absorption and emission spectrometers, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPLC-DAD, flame atomic absorption spectrometers, and related equipment. Knowledge of Dangerous Goods would be advantageous.

The appointee will be responsible for operating these instruments and providing technical support for research sample measurements, including assisting with data acquisition and training research students and authorized users in data collection and analysis.  Additionally, the appointee will oversee the design and modification of undergraduate experiments, the preparation of chemicals, materials, and standards, as well as the maintenance and calibration of instruments for undergraduate and research laboratories.
