Project Manager (Commercialization) (at the rank of Administrative Assistant II) in the Technology Transfer Office (Ref.:533391) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)
The Role
The appointee will provide dedicated project management and strategic guidance to our InnoHK Centres, focusing on accelerating promising translational research projects and guiding them towards commercialization, whether through licensing or the creation of high-potential spin-off companies.
This role is ideal for a proactive professional with a unique blend of business development acumen, legal understanding, and a passion for fostering innovation.
Key Responsibilities
The appointee will provide project management support to InnoHK Centres on commercializing translational research projects. Major responsibilities include:
- Legal & Governance Guidance: Provide preliminary guidance on legal and governance matters related to licensing, spin-out company incorporation, shareholder agreements, and corporate governance, leveraging professional legal or company secretary training; ensure compliance with University policies;
- Agreement Support: Assist in reviewing of key early-stage documents, including term sheets, option agreements, and licensing agreements, under the supervision of legal team of the TTO;
- Intellectual Property Strategy: Work closely with the IP Management team to support Centre in developing their strategic patent filing plans; and
- Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation: Serve as the central liaison between researchers, the TTO, external legal firms, potential investors, and industry partners to facilitate smooth technology transfer and startup launch.
Qualifications and Experience
- A good Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, business, or legal field;
- Professional legal or company secretarial training is highly valued, with the ability to interpret and preliminarily advise on legal agreements and governance structures;
- A minimum of 5-7 years of work experience. Experience in technology commercialization, business development, venture building, or a related field, ideally within a research, technology, or startup environment would be an advantage;
- Demonstrable experience in managing complex initiatives from conception to completion. Experience in startup formation, including business plan and pitch deck development, is highly desirable;
- A strong understanding of intellectual property principles and the patent process;
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trust and effectively manage relationships with diverse stakeholders;
- Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Putonghua) is required; and
- A proactive, results-oriented mindset, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
