Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 533634), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess a medical qualification registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong and a specialist qualification in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, with an interest in pursuing a career in academic medicine. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to, and evidence of, excellence in teaching, and preferably possess the expertise to help reinforce and advance the Department’s teaching strengths in the broad spectrum of medical and health sciences education. They should also demonstrate the potential for conducting independent research by track record on research publications. The ability to speak Cantonese will be an advantage, although teaching, research and professional activities are conducted in English.
The appointee will undertake teaching responsibilities primarily at the undergraduate level. He/She will also teach postgraduate courses and supervise M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. In addition, he/she is expected to conduct high-quality scholarly research, provide clinical service and patient care at the University’s affiliate teaching hospitals, and participate in services/administration at the Departmental, Faculty and University levels. Travelling to Chinese Mainland may be required occasionally.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. A monthly cash allowance will be offered to the successful candidate. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
