Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit and the Bau Institute of Medical and Health Sciences Education (Ref.: 533640), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

 

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or a related field; and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in teaching medical undergraduate programmes. He/ she should be able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment. High proficiency in English, strong student engagement and mentoring skills are essential. A proven track record of excellence in teaching and student learning, particularly in small-group settings,  and experience in curriculum design, faculty development, and pedagogical innovation is highly preferred. Preference will be given to those with interest and experience in teaching medical humanities and related areas such as social issues, the history of medicine, and wellbeing.

 

The appointee will be responsible for coordinating and teaching Medical Humanities modules within the MBBS curriculum, leading related teaching development and research projects and supporting continuous professional development in medical education. The appointee will be expected to work collaboratively with teachers, medical professionals, supporting staff, students and other stakeholders. A good network within Hong Kong’s public/ private healthcare sectors and/or NGOs, with potential teaching partners for the Medical Humanities programme, will be considered a strong asset.  

 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
