Associate Director/Assistant Director of Human Resources (Compensation & Benefits) (at the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar) in the Human Resources Office (HRO) (Ref.: 533766)
 
We are looking for an Associate Director/Assistant Director of Human Resources to lead the Compensation & Benefits team. He/she will oversee the planning, development and implementation of integrated human resource policies and services in the compensation and benefits areas. 
 
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Associate Director/Assistant Director will collaborate with the University’s stakeholders to develop and implement compensation and benefit strategy/programs that are competitive, equitable and proactive, and ensure that these programs are aligned with the University’s goals and serve to attract, retain, and motivate high performing employees. Based on the qualifications and experience of the appointee, there will be opportunities for him/her to be rotated into leadership roles in other functional areas in the future.
 
The Role
 
The appointee will:
  • Conduct regular review of the University pay structure, oversee implementation of annual salary review exercise, and make recommendation on pay decisions from time to time.
  • Lead, oversee and perform compensation studies and job analysis for individual, new, and existing positions campus wide.
  • Review and develop compensation programs and plans for all levels of the University that enable leaders to recognize, reward and reinforce excellence and sustained employee performance.
  • Manage benefits programs and lead the design and improvement of various benefits programs such as retirement, medical, leave and housing entitlements for various staff categories.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate reporting, budgeting and compliance with legal requirements regarding compensation and related issues by collaborating with Legal, Finance, Audit and third-party partners.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to the compensation & benefits team.
  • Any other duties as assigned. 
 
Qualifications and Qualities
 
  • A good University degree, preferably a higher degree;
  • 10-15 years of management experience in large and complex organisations, including 5 years of significant professional compensation and benefit experience. Experience in a university setting is an advantage but not mandatory. A good understanding of the vision and mission of the University and their implications to the overall HR strategies;
  • Broad knowledge of HR best practices, including professional recruitment strategies, onboarding, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee development and HRIS;
  • Deep understanding of progressive international compensation and benefits best practices, global mobility, and duty of care practices, including benchmarking, job mapping, compensation and benefits administration;
  • Experience in managing cross-border employment and their compensation and benefits arrangements;
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking, leadership, and strong presentation skills, with the ability to problem-solve, influence decisions and manage change;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical competencies. Exceptional attention to detail with strong project management skills and ability to prioritize effectively;
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build effective relationships across the university and with external and internal stakeholders;
  • Excellent communications skills including verbal, written, and presentation in English and Chinese.
 
What We Offer
 
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract, commencing as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, and contract-end gratuity together with University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided where appropriate.
