Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in Portuguese (Global and Area Studies) in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Ref.: 533840), to commence on July 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and availability of funding.

Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree and demonstrate expertise in teaching Portuguese to non-native speakers, along with the ability to deliver research-based courses on Lusophone cultures and societies.

Applicants must be native or near-native speakers of Portuguese with excellent English proficiency.  They should be familiar with contemporary trends in Portuguese-language pedagogy and assessment, including the use of AI tools for teaching and learning.  The appointee will be responsible for  teaching courses at various levels, developing new curricula, and designing assessment materials. While the primary duties involve teaching and administration, research activities are also encouraged.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary.
