Senior Collections Manager (at the rank of Administrative Assistant II) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.: 533854) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

The Role

Reporting to the Director, the appointee will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage, maintain, and facilitate the use of the University’s art collections;
  • Work closely with museum communities, the University community, and professional organizations; and
  • Provide the required services; including but not limited to: (1) accessioning, cataloguing, and integrating art objects into the collection; (2) conducting condition checks and writing condition reports; (3) processing and managing loans; (4) developing, improving and maintaining collection management database; (5) IT management and long-term archiving tasks, including word processing, and image management (6) providing assistance to Curators in research; (7) training and working with undergraduate and graduate students, interns, and volunteers; and (8) participating in museum programs and outreach activities, workshops, seminars, and other forms of professional development.  

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Collections Management, Library Science, Material Culture, or a related discipline;
  • At least 6 years’ professional museum experience;
  • A solid knowledge of management of art collections, documentation responsibilities and procedures including the practices, standards, ethics, and theory of collection stewardship on digital platform. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of all movements of objects into and out of the Museum, maintaining an accurate collection database, insuring proper storage of the works of art, and compiling the legal documents relating to museum collections and loans; and
  • Knowledge of Collection/Museum Management Systems, Data Field Catalogues, Professional Standards, and Long-term Archiving and/or a strong interest in further education in these areas.
