The Centre for Comparative Medicine Research is a rapidly expanding, AAALAC International accredited, academic research-support centre of the LKS Faculty of Medicine at HKU. We are committed to the provision of high-quality laboratory animals, well-equipped animal holding facilities, and professional services to support the leading role of HKU in research and teaching. With a professional team comprising scientists, veterinarians, registered laboratory animal and medical laboratory technologists, and over 130 highly trained and dedicated staff, we strive to promote the humane and excellent care and use of laboratory animals at the University. The Role
The appointee will monitor the welfare of laboratory animals and keep track of researchers’ compliance with animal ethics committee guidelines, approved protocols, local legislation, codes of practice and AAALAC International standards. He/She will also inspect animal facilities and research laboratories; provide advice, support, education and training for researchers and animal care staff; and assist in protocol and safety reviews. Previous experience and/or knowledge of research animal welfare practices and experimental design principles are essential. Working hours are flexible and negotiable to accommodate the right candidate.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Veterinary Medicine which is registrable under the Hong Kong Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance, with at least 8 years’ relevant experience in veterinary practice and in a research animal setting. They should also be able to work independently, demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, and possess good interpersonal, communication and computer skills.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview.
