Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Robotics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 534314), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Robotics is reshaping the future of engineering — and mechanical engineering is at the heart of this transformation. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, our researchers tackle some of the most complex challenges in intelligent systems, from precision manipulation and manufacturing automation to surgical assistance, space exploration, and operations in hazardous environments. In particular, the rapid growth of soft and intelligent robotics research is opening exciting new opportunities for innovation, impact, and real-world solutions.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes within one of the region’s most highly ranked engineering schools. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field with an excellent research record. The appointee is expected to conduct frontier research within the following areas: robotic intelligence, humanoid robotics, surgical robotics, bio-inspired robotics, wearable devices and robotics, soft robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerial robotics. They will also be responsible for delivering quality teaching in relevant subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in addition to the engagement in knowledge transfer activities and provision of administrative service to the University/Faculty/Department.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
