Senior Curatorial Assistant (at the rank of Clerk II) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.:534695) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
The University Museum and Art Gallery is the oldest continuously run museum in Hong Kong. It is a teaching museum affiliated with HKU’s Faculty of Arts.
The HKU Museums Group is a consortium of four specialized museums situated on The University of Hong Kong campus, spanning diverse artistic and scientific disciplines. Our members include:
• University Museum & Art Gallery
• Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole
• Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum
• Stephen Hui Geological Museum
The MA in Museum Studies programme is offered by the Faculty of Arts in connection with UMAG.
The Role
The appointee will be affiliated with UMAG to provide a wide range of administrative support to the HKU Museums Group and MA in Museum Studies programme, including:
- Coordinate the development and implementation of museum based educational initiatives;
- Liaise with primary and secondary schools to promote and schedule programme activities;
- Manage marketing and outreach activities to increase programme visibility;
- Ensure smooth logistical operations and interdisciplinary integration between the four-member museums;
- Recruit and supervise interns; and
- Other ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Qualities
- Degree holder or above, preferably in cultural, art history, museum studies or communications AND a Level 4 result or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;
- Four years’ work experience with demonstrated experience in project coordination, preferably within the education, cultural, or non-profit sectors;
- Proficiency in computer software including Zoom, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva, and knowledge in photo/image/video editing is a plus.;
- A strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage;
- Ability to multi-task and be attentive to details, and should be able to work flexible hours. Working shifts on Saturdays and Sundays will be required;
- Proactive, self-motivated, strong sense of responsibility, and a good team player;
- A strong interest in education, marketing, and interdisciplinary engagement; and
- Excellent communication skills, organizational prowess, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment
