Research Assistant I/II in the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS)
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant I/II in the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS), to commence on or before July 1, 2026, for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree and/or substantial prior research experience will be an advantage and may qualify the appointee for appointment as Research Assistant I. The appointee will support research projects in marine ecology based at SWIMS and SBS. They will assist with the planning and execution of field surveys and experiments in coastal and marine ecosystems, conduct sample processing and basic laboratory analyses, and help with data entry and data management. They will also support the preparation of reports, presentations and other research outputs. In addition, the appointee will provide general support to research and teaching activities associated with an MSc programme in marine ecology and conservation, including assistance with field-based teaching activities and student research projects as needed. The appointee will be required to work both at SWIMS facilities and on the HKU main campus and at field sites around Hong Kong.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax in Hong Kong does not exceed 15% of gross income.
