Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant II in the Faculty of Arts (Ref.: 537179), in support of the newly-established HKU Global AI Governance Hub (HKU-GAGH), to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy, public policy, law, political science, international relations, or a related discipline. The successful candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills in English, excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A demonstrated interest in AI governance, technology ethics, public policy, or related fields is preferred. Experience in research assistance, event management, or stakeholder engagement is desirable.

The appointee will support the research and operational activities of the HKU Global AI Governance Hub, a new initiative focused on AI governance, ethics, and public policy with an emphasis on Asia and the Global South. Duties will include assisting with literature reviews, policy research, data collection, and the preparation of reports, briefing papers, and presentations. The appointee will also help organise workshops, roundtables, public lectures, and other events; coordinate communications with scholars, policymakers, and partners; and provide general administrative support. The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
