Part-time Student Research Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 537344), to commence as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal.
We now invite applications for the captioned post. The successful candidate will primarily assist the research team in conducting field tests of a multimodal recommendation application developed by the research team.
This position is open to current undergraduate students of HKU only. We are looking for candidates who are patient, responsible, communicative, and able to commit sufficient time to fieldwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will work closely with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the research team. The main duties include:
- Accompanying research team members to elderly care homes, community centres, and other relevant organisations to conduct field tests.
- Assisting elderly participants and other users in testing the multimodal recommendation application developed by the research team.
- Explaining the application and testing procedures to participants in Cantonese and Mandarin.
- Communicating patiently with elderly participants and providing assistance while they use the application.
- Collecting user feedback, survey responses, and other research data during field tests.
- Recording issues encountered by participants and reporting them to the research team.
- Assisting with the coordination and organisation of field-testing activities.
- Supporting other research-related tasks as assigned by the research team.

Requirements
Applicants must be current undergraduate students of HKU and able to work on a part-time basis.
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Fluency in both Cantonese and Mandarin is essential.
- Patience and a willingness to communicate with elderly participants.
- A responsible, friendly, and respectful attitude.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sufficient availability and flexibility to participate in field visits.
- Willingness to travel to elderly care homes, community centres, and other field-testing locations.
- Ability to follow research protocols and handle participant information responsibly.
- Ability to work effectively with PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and other members of the research team.
Undergraduate students from any academic discipline are welcome to apply. Previous experience in volunteering, elderly care, community service, user studies, surveys, interviews, or field research would be an advantage but is not required.
Programming and application development skills are not primary requirements. Basic technical knowledge or an interest in mobile applications, artificial intelligence, transportation, or recommendation systems would be an advantage.
