Post-doctoral Fellow (3 posts) in Intelligent Transportation Systems in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 537509)
We now invite applications for the captioned posts to work on the TIASim project, which aims to develop a Hong Kong-localised microscopic traffic simulation and visual analytics platform for Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA).
Duties and Responsibilities
The appointees will conduct research and development in one or more of the following areas:
- Develop, calibrate and validate microscopic traffic simulation models for Hong Kong traffic conditions;
- Develop Web-based transportation analysis and TIA workflow modules, including network editing, traffic demand configuration, scenario generation and mitigation assessment;
- Develop intelligent traffic diagnosis and mitigation scheme generation and evaluation methods;
- Develop transportation databases and AI-assisted workflows for traffic data and TIA report extraction, standardisation, validation and management;
- Analyse real-world transportation data, including traffic surveys, CCTV observations, vehicle trajectories and related datasets;
- Integrate traffic simulation, Web-based systems, transportation data and database modules;
- Conduct representative Hong Kong case studies for system validation and evaluation; and
- Prepare research publications, technical reports and project deliverables.
Enquiries about the duties of the post should also be sent to Dr. Jintao Ke at kejintao@hku.hk. Descriptions of Dr. Ke can be found at https://sites.google.com/view/kejintao.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Automation, or a related field.
The following qualifications and experience are preferred:
- A strong research background in transportation modelling, traffic simulation, intelligent transportation systems, transportation data analytics, AI/machine learning, Web-based transportation systems, or database development;
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++, MATLAB, Java, JavaScript, R, or related languages;
- Experience in analysing real-world transportation data or developing transportation-related models/software;
- Strong analytical, communication and academic writing skills; and
- Ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
The project manpower plan requires the postdoctoral fellows to work full-time on the project.
What We Offer
The appointment will commence as soon as possible for 1 or 2 year(s), depending on the duties and experience of the successful candidates, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
