Research Assistant II (4 posts) in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 537511), to commence as soon as possible for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
We now invite applications for the captioned posts to work on TIASim, a Hong Kong-localised microscopic traffic simulation platform for Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the development, calibration and validation of the TIASim microscopic traffic simulation engine;
- Support the development and testing of Web-based TIA workflow modules and the user interface;
- Assist with TIA report data extraction, database development, data checking and version management; and
- Assist in developing, testing and evaluating traffic diagnosis and mitigation measures.
The appointees will also assist with Hong Kong traffic data analysis, software integration, case studies and project deliverables.

Requirements
Candidates should possess a master’s degree in Computer Science, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Data Science or a related field. They must be able to commit to full-time employment without concurrent employment obligations.
The following skills and knowledge are expected:
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++, Java or JavaScript;
- Knowledge of traffic simulation, transportation data analysis, artificial intelligence, Web development or database systems; and
- Good analytical skills and the ability to work effectively with researchers from different disciplines.
MSc students at a Hong Kong University are also encouraged to apply and can be appointed as a part-time research assistant.
