Executive Officer in Hong Kong University Press (Ref.: 537638) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)

The appointee will work alongside the Managing Editor in guiding projects through the publication process — from manuscript acceptance through copyediting, proofreading, indexing, and final delivery in both print and digital formats.

Day-to-day duties include coordinating with the production team and managing a roster of freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers by assigning projects, evaluating work quality, and providing constructive feedback. The successful candidate will also serve as a key point of contact for authors, liaising with them throughout the editing and proofreading stages to address editorial queries, resolve content issues, and ensure a smooth and timely proof-checking process. Additionally, the appointee will work closely with the acquisitions, production, and marketing teams to shape cover design concepts and polish promotional back-cover copy. A key component of the position is maintaining rigorous academic publishing standards, which includes regularly updating house style guidelines and integrating emerging editorial best practices.

Applicants should possess a recognized Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Chinese studies, translation, linguistics, comparative literature, or a related discipline. Those who hold degrees in other fields with substantial editorial experience are also encouraged to apply. A minimum of 3 years of academic and scholarly editorial experience is required, together with a proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines. Prior experience in digital publishing formats (such as EPUB and open-access platforms) and metadata standards will be a distinct advantage. Applicants should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) and strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Proven IT proficiency is required, along with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team setting.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online at the University's career site (http://jobs.hku.hk), and upload an up-to-date C.V. Review of applications will start from November 13, 2026 and continue until November 29, 2026, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
