We’re looking for a Retail Store Assistant with relevant experience who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference on a permanent part-time basis, working 30.4 hours per fortnight based in Deer Park. Employee must be available to work on Mondays and Saturdays. All other rostered days will vary, depending on store needs.

THE ROLE

The retail network was originally started as a fundraising venture to support and subsidise the community work associated with the Brotherhood’s vision of an Australia Free of Poverty. Retail is now incorporated into the Brotherhood’s community work itself and its growth and sustainability depends on the integration of the store into Empowered Community Enterprises.

The Retail Store Assistant is responsible for undertaking general shop duties under the direction of the Area and Store Manager, liaising with volunteer workers and assisting in the running of the store.

  • Work collaboratively within teams to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the BSL’s quality framework and culture by participating in and promoting quality actions through continual improvement activities
  • Ensure high quality reputation through providing high level courteous and professional customer service, sales and merchandising
  • Ensure client requests are met in a professional and timely manner

Salary will be $27.48 per hour, plus superannuation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for an who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Previous retail experience in recycled goods is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment to achieve objectives
  • High quality interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to liaise and work with a combination of volunteers, paid work force staff and people from diverse backgrounds visiting the store
  • Professional manner and high customer service focus
  • Flexible attitude with an ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Must be physically fit to lift bags of weight up to 10kgs.
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
  • An enthusiasm for recycled goods and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people is desirable.
  • Work at other stores in the surrounding area may be required
