About the role:

The Education-focused Academic will work collaboratively as part of a teaching team to develop and deliver learning materials and activities with guidance from the Unit Chair, to improve the student learning experience and outcomes. The position will engage collaboratively with leaders from within the teaching team to develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics and provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes engage in high-quality scholarship and creative activities generating high-impact outputs, with mentorship from leaders within the teaching team.

The Education-Focused Academic will help to shape the curriculum and create engaging learning materials for psychology and counselling units, with a focus on first-year introductory psychology units, both online and in traditional face-to-face settings (please see Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) for information on the types of first-year units in our undergraduate course).

This position is suited to a person with an emerging record and passion for learning and teaching, a keen interest in contributing to community engagement for teaching and employability. 

As an Education-focused Academic, you will:

  • Develop effective learning materials and activities as part of a design team or with guidance from the Unit Chair and demonstrate awareness of ongoing innovation in curriculum design.
  • Assist in applying industry, clinical and/or research practice into student learning experiences, success, engagement and resources.
  • Deliver effective teaching practices within unit and suggest approaches to innovate teaching practices to improve student success and engagement.
  • Maintain appropriate discipline knowledge and constructively review and refine own teaching practice to help maintain teaching quality standards.
  • Facilitate collaborative learning opportunities at the unit level. Adapt learning material and practices to support diverse learners.                                                                                                                                                                   

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD or near completion or enrolled in a PhD program and/or other relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning.
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching practices to improve student success and engagement.
  • Capacity to contribute to teaching, research and administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Possess or undertake (post-appointment) Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
