At Deakin, you will be joining a forward-thinking Infrastructure & Digital division committed to enabling industry leading teaching, learning, research, and operations. You will be part of a newly aligned digital leadership team that values cross-functional collaboration, shared ownership, and delivering tangible impact.

This is a unique opportunity to influence how digital systems support the university’s physical spaces and infrastructure, enhancing the experiences of students, staff and service providers alike.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager – Business Systems to lead the management and strategic oversight of digital systems that underpin the university’s property, infrastructure, space and facilities operations.

This position sits within the Business Systems team, a new domain-aligned enablement group under the Systems & Solutions directorate. You will be responsible for ensuring the platforms supporting Property & Infrastructure Services are fit-for-purpose, well-integrated, and aligned to evolving operational needs and enterprise strategies.

In this role you will lead a focused team of specialists and analysts, supporting the service delivery of a structured capability framework across operations. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across Operations, Engagement, Delivery, and Resilience to uplift digital maturity and deliver value through better system use and design.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Manager, Business Systems, you will:

  • Lead the Business Systems function, overseeing system performance, enhancements, and operational service delivery.
  • Act as the responsible steward and manager of property and infrastructure related systems, supporting capabilities such as asset management, space planning, maintenance, and capital works.
  • Own and evolve the roadmap for key functions within platforms ensuring alignment with the university’s goals and broader digital strategy.
  • Manage the planning, implementation, and execution of new infrastructure system projects, upgrades, or system integrations, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop trusted relationships with stakeholders across the Infrastructure and Digital division, surfacing operational needs and supporting system-driven improvements.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance and support to team members in delivering initiatives, ensuring their growth and development.

About You

You are a digital systems leader with extensive experience managing enterprise platforms. Experience in the property, infrastructure, or facilities domains will be considered favourably. You bring a clear understanding of how technology enables operational success and thrive in roles that sit at the intersection of business, systems, and strategy. Additionally, you are an innovative thinker who continuously seeks out new technologies and approaches to drive efficiency and growth within the organisation.

To be successful, you’ll have

  • Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, with the ability to work across technical, operational, and strategic levels.
  • Sound understanding of system lifecycle management, digital governance, and service delivery frameworks.
  • A practical and strategic mindset, focused on delivering value through systems, data, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven expertise leading teams responsible for property and/or infrastructure systems, or other relevant Business Systems.
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience in ensuring a large organisation’s infrastructure operations are supported by a reliable, efficient, and compliant system.
