About the role:

As a Career Consultant, you will work closely with students and graduates to provide career coaching and advice both on campus and online. You will also support the development of career education and contribute to the broader DeakinTALENT programs and services.

Some of us have recruited graduates for major employers, while others have worked in recruitment agencies or have extensive experience working with students and graduates.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide personalised career coaching and advisory services to diverse student and graduate cohorts, both on-campus and online.
  • Review graduate job applications and offer expert feedback to enhance their quality and competitiveness.
  • Analyse data and feedback to assess the effectiveness of career services and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, external partners, and DeakinTALENT to ensure alignment of services with institutional goals and strategies.
  • Striving for excellence and consulting regularly with students to clarify who requires the information, the purpose for which it is required, criteria for success and where and when advice and recommendation is required.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Degree with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience plus a postgraduate qualification as assessed by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) professional association as appropriate for professional practice or equivalent; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Proven experience in the application of careers theory model(s) to the effective delivery of career coaching and related career development and application support services.
  • Track record in successful provisioning of career counselling/coaching and case managing to diverse cohorts of university students.
  • Proficiency in collecting data and feedback for analysis on service and program evaluation.
  • A high level of digital literacy and interest in working with technology.

Special Requirements

  • Infrequent work outside business hours is required (e.g., work at evening or weekend events is required)
  • Working with Children Check (refer to Recruitment Procedure)
