About the role:
The Senior Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Science will lead unit and course teaching teams in the Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Optometry Program, enhancing both the student learning experience and outcomes. The successful candidate, who will ideally be an AHPRA and therapeutically endorsed optometrist, will also drive the growth and productivity of high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activities, producing high-impact outputs. The role will also involve fostering academic and interdisciplinary collaborations, with a strong focus on integrating teaching and research to advance innovative initiatives within the optometry discipline.
As Senior Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Science, you will be responsible for:
Education and Employability
- Lead unit and course teaching teams and work collaboratively with other teaching teams in the Optometry program, School, and Faculty to develop effective unit/courses curricula and learning materials (including through course leadership roles). Lead review of units and courses and implement refinements.
- Integrate industry, clinical and/or research practice into unit/course design to improve student learning experiences, success, engagement and resources.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and educational excellence within the discipline. Build teaching and learning capability and effective unit and course teaching teams related to discipline or pedagogy and support the professional development of other academics. Conduct mentoring of colleagues to help improve their teaching practices.
Research and Innovation
- Develop and increasingly lead intra- and inter-disciplinary research collaborations, to enable major breakthroughs in knowledge and understanding and solutions to complex problems.
- Develop and lead innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, generation of products, services, new ways of operating, priority setting and or other innovations with positive impact, with national recognition. Demonstrate timely and sustained delivery of commercialisation and translation outcomes.
- Provide effective mentoring to HDR students and ECRs to support professional and career development and employability. Develop and implement initiatives that ensure widespread adoption of a culture of research excellence, innovation, and impact and support industry partnerships that provide HDRs and ECRs with industry experience.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- The applicant must be an AHPRA registered and therapeutically endorsed optometrist.
- Positive engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national standing of the discipline.
- Demonstrated capacity and passion for leadership of teaching, research and administration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
