The Office of Indigenous Strategy and Innovation takes a whole-of-university view to creating an environment that allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff to be successful, safe and supported at Deakin. We can provide timely, evidence-based, and culturally-grounded advice to areas of the University that are seeking to improve outcomes for First Nations Peoples.

As an Officer of Indigenous Curriculum, you will:

  • Coordinate events, by administering logistics for workshops and On-Country learning days, including venues, catering, travel, tech support, and communications.
  • Support the delivery of engaging in-person and online experiences by providing on-site event support and coordinating virtual sessions with seamless follow-up and participant engagement.
  • Build meaningful partnerships via the liaison with Deakin staff, Traditional Owners, and external providers to ensure culturally respectful and successful event delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data and feedback while maintaining detailed event records, monitor attendance, and conduct evaluations to support reporting and refinement.
  • Be the digital and communications go-to person, using strong administrative and technical skills to manage platforms and tools, while ensuring clear, professional communication with stakeholders.

In a typical day, you will:

  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture within the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Innovation by coaching and guiding team members to achieve shared goals, fostering open communication, and building respectful, inclusive relationships.
  • Model professionalism and integrity through ethical behaviour, informed decision-making, and seeking expert input when needed.
  • Deliver exceptional service by responding promptly and effectively to customer queries and feedback, and tailoring communication to meet diverse needs and expectations.
  • Communicate with clarity and purpose by presenting information in a structured, audience-appropriate manner and ensuring key messages are understood.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships by supporting colleagues through change, maintaining trust, and collaborating across diverse groups.
  • Take ownership of your work through effective time management, setting and achieving goals, and contributing positively to a productive team environment.
  • Drive continuous improvement by embracing new ideas, refining work practices, and delivering efficient, high-quality outcomes.
  • Be proactive and solutions-focused by taking initiative, offering constructive feedback, and identifying opportunities for change and innovation.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A degree with no subsequent relevant experience, or an associate diploma with at least two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in administration within a large, complex organisation, including familiarity with administrative policies, procedures, and structures.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments, managing face-to-face, phone, and written communication.
  • Experience delivering services and support in a large organisational setting.
  • Experience working respectfully and effectively with Indigenous Peoples and communities.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms such as Smartsheet, Eventbrite and SharePoint is desirable.
