  • Level A $80,065 - $107,633 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time)

We work closely with industry partners and government bodies to translate discoveries into real-word impact. This role will specifically be working within the School of Medicine.

 

About the role:

The optometry program is based within the Deakin School of Medicine and is one of five clinical training programs in the school. The Deakin optometry program is grounded in pedagogical design which is vertically and horizontally integrated; anchored by a first year curriculum comprising foundational studies and then driven by a backbone of problem-based learning (PBL), team based learning and clinical skills taught in a manner that links their relevance to PBL cases.

 

As an Associate Lecturer in Optometry, Education-focused, you will:

  • Contribute to all aspects of the optometry curriculum, primarily through the Clinical Residential Placement (CRP) program, virtual international placements, and the Deakin Collaborative Eye Care Clinic (DCECC).
  • Work directly with industry placement providers, international placement teams, and other stakeholders to develop placement opportunities for students.
  • Provide patient care and student placement supervision primarily within DCECC but may also be required to travel to other clinical sites for teaching and assessment throughout the year.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a clinical teaching team to deliver clinical learning materials and activities with guidance from the Head of Clinical Placements and the Clinic Director/Unit Chairs, to improve the student learning experience and outcomes.

 

To be successful, you’ll have:

This position will suit a person with a high level of clinical optometry experience with strong interest/clinical experience in ocular surface disease together with an emerging record and passion for learning and teaching.  An interest in exploring and building on new areas of clinical teaching for high quality student experience outcomes is highly regarded.

  • Optometry qualification (e.g. BOptom, MOptom, OD)
  • Current registration with the Optometry Board of Australia/AHPRA, enabling practice of optometry in Australia
  • Endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines in Australia
  • Recent comprehensive clinical practice experience with proven interest/experience in ocular surface disease/dry eye disease
