Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Residential Experience, the Night Operations & Welfare Coordinator is responsible for promptly responding to incidents, coordinating emergency responses where required, producing detailed and accurate reporting and fostering a culture of respect and safety within the residential community.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Respond promptly and effectively to incidents occurring during night hours, such as medical emergencies, resident welfare, security breaches, or facility hazards.
  • Assess the severity of incidents and implement appropriate protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff.
  • Coordinate with emergency services, and relevant stakeholders to manage incidents efficiently and minimize potential risks, escalating to the General Manager where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all incidents, including incident reports, witness accounts, and follow-up actions taken.
  • Ensure timely communication of incident details to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provide compassionate and responsive customer service to residents, staff, and visitors at all times.
  • Address concerns and inquiries promptly, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and safety within the residential community.
  • Address conflicts or issues that arise, fostering a supportive environment where all residents feel valued and heard.
  • Attend to the needs of short-stay residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and satisfaction during their time within the residential facility.
  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly, addressing facility-related issues to maintain a safe and functional environment for residents and staff.
  • Participate in training sessions and drills to enhance preparedness for incident response and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards or vulnerabilities within DRS
  • Implement proactive measures to mitigate risks and enhance the safety and security of residents.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and debriefings following incidents to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement corrective actions and incorporate lessons learned into future response strategies to continually enhance safety and security measures.

To be successful, you'll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • Previous experience in crisis management, emergency response, or a similar role highly desirable. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management principles.
  • Commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive community environment

This role involves working overnight hours, typically between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM, and includes providing shift coverage during Deakin's shutdown periods over the Christmas and Easter holidays
