We’re looking for a dynamic leader to step into a critical role within the Cyber Security team.

 

The Associate Director, Cyber Security Threat Intelligence is a senior leader with deep expertise in identifying and managing cybersecurity threats, particularly those relevant to the higher education sector. This role is responsible for gathering, analysing and acting on cyber threat intelligence, monitoring emerging risks and ensuring effective defensive strategies are in place. They will lead and inspire a team of cyber professionals to deliver proactive, high-quality advice and services across the University.

As the Associate Director, Cyber Security Threat Intelligence, you will:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance and support to team members in delivering strategic cyber initiatives, ensuring their growth and development.
  • Develop and implement cyber threat intelligence initiatives that align with Deakin's goals and future needs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify cyber trends, emerging threats, and vulnerabilities. Maintain relationships with higher education institutes, government agencies, industry groups, and third-party vendors to obtain actionable intelligence and share information on cyber threats.
  • Partner with cyber and resilience teams and key stakeholders to assess and prioritise cyber risks based on threat intelligence findings and organisational vulnerabilities and recommend and implement security controls, countermeasures and defence strategies to mitigate identified threats.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and across the University to ensure alignment and successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Provide leading input on the development of security policies and procedures based on threat intelligence and emerging cyber risks and work closely with teams to ensure that threat intelligence is shared and used to bolster security across all areas.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Extensive experience conceptualising, developing and implementing contemporary solutions, strategies and services to achieve a large organisation's objectives.
  • Proven ability to exercise judgement, influence others, be flexible and adaptive to environmental changes and priorities and gain support for new plans, programs or initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity for analytical and conceptual thought in the diagnosis of problems and in providing innovative, timely, relevant and practical solutions.
  • Extensive expertise and experience in information technology, cyber security, and vulnerability management principles and practices.
  • Substantial understanding and application of information security best practices, policies, standards, and baselines, with demonstrable knowledge of industry benchmarks including ISO 27001/27002, NIST, and CIS frameworks and guidelines.
