About the role

The Health Promotion Project Officer supports Deakin’s Vape-Free Project by delivering initiatives that reduce vaping, nicotine use, and smoking across the university. Funded by VicHealth’s Vaping Prevention Collective, the role will primarily assist to drive student health promotion activities, engagement, and well as provide overall project support.

As a Health Promotion Project Officer, you will:

  • Support coordination of project activities, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Deliver workshops and events, promote and amplify the ‘Uncloud’ anti-vaping media campaign, support a university vape-drop initiative, assist with the coordination of a student health promotion hackathon, and contribute to staff capacity-building initiatives.
  • Engage students and staff in co-designing vaping prevention initiatives that are inclusive, evidence based and tailored to the university environment.
  • Support the planning and delivery of student engagement campaigns during key events such as Orientation Week and World No Tobacco Day.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project goals and promote collaboration.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of a Post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a technician; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training ⋅ Demonstrated experience in planning, delivering, and evaluating health promotion or public health initiatives, ideally within youth or tertiary education settings.
  • Experience in coordinating small-scale projects or campaigns, including managing timelines, resources, and reporting requirements.
