The Research Fellow will be based in the School of Psychology. Deakin’s School of Psychology is one of the largest and most progressive psychology departments in Australia. The School is home to over 130 research/academic staff and 170 PhD students. Our flagship research centre SEED-Lifespan, is a highly productive research centre that focuses on mental health and healthy social and emotional development across the life course.

About the job:

The Research Fellow will contribute to a research project funded by the Australian Research Council that will use longitudinal and administrative data to better understand the relationship between mental health and employment circumstances. The successful applicant will use their strong writing skills to prepare reports and papers for publication in high impact journals. They will draw on their strong quantitative skills and experience to analyse longitudinal cohort data and administrative data to answer policy-relevant questions. The Research Fellow will also liaise with key stakeholders in the community, public and private sectors to maximise the real-world impact of the project.

As a Research Fellow, you will:

  • Undertake the design, analysis and interpretation of data from longitudinal cohort studies.
  • Analyse large scale administrative data.
  • Lead and contribute to preparation of peer-review publications and reports
  • Be involved in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at relevant conferences;
  • Undertake research related administrative functions

Selection Criteria:

  • PhD in psychology, epidemiology or another relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and research experience
  • Post-doctoral research experience that has resulted in publications, conference papers, reports or professional or technical contributions that give evidence of research ability
  • Highly developed writing skills demonstrated by lead roles in academic and non-academic publications  
  • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications
  • Strong skills and experience analysing and interpreting longitudinal data and a demonstrated capacity using Stata (or other similar statistical packages)  
  • Success in obtaining external research funding.
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research.
  • Capacity to contribute to leadership of research and administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
