Deakin’s Research Business Development and Commercialisation (BD&C) is a key function within the University’s Research and Innovation portfolio. BD&C areas within the division are Deakin’s Recycling and Clean Energy Commercialisation Hub (REACH) Trailblazer, Business Development, Intellectual Property, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship.

In this position you will:

• Lead initiatives to foster innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement while aligning with the University's Strategic Plan and functional strategies.
• Drive Research Business Development efforts to align with the university's objectives, overseeing prioritization and delivery to support long-term goals.
• Collaborate with research leaders and industry partners to identify opportunities that enhance Deakin’s reputation and build strong, cross-functional relationships.
• Provide leadership to the Business Development team, promoting collaboration, growth, and skill development within the team.
• Promote continuous learning, delegate responsibilities for empowerment, and set clear performance standards while recognizing achievements.
• Stay informed on research funding trends, offer recommendations for operational efficiency, and ensure initiatives align with strategic priorities, impacting the university's growth and success.            

To be successful, you’ll have:

• Qualifications and experience appropriate for the level of the appointment.
• Proven success in developing and implementing strategic research engagement initiatives.
• Strong understanding of contemporary research landscape, with the ability to adapt and apply them for organisational benefit.
• Demonstrated leadership and resource management skills, including the ability to build high-performance teams and lead change.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities, with a capacity to navigate ambiguity and deliver results under tight deadlines.
