The School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University invites you to lead and inspire in the field of Public Health. Be part of a prestigious team dedicated to advancing health and social well-being through cutting-edge research, teaching, and community partnerships.

We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in disease prevention and control, health protection, and quantitative research methods. Our school is globally ranked in public health, known for solution-driven research, and collaboration with government, industry, and community sectors. We’re looking for an expert passionate about public health, research, and teaching, to shape a new generation of health professionals.

Responsibilities of the Role:

Education and Employability

- Develop and apply in-depth knowledge to design and improve curriculum and learning resources.

- Lead and collaborate with teaching teams to create innovative, accessible, and inclusive educational materials.

- Design and assess units, providing clear criteria and constructive feedback to support student learning and engagement.

- Foster educational excellence through mentorship, support for junior colleagues, and implementation of research-informed teaching practices.

Research and Innovation

- Conduct impactful research, building a strong national reputation in the field through high-quality, publishable work.

- Secure research funding and develop industry partnerships to translate findings into real-world applications.

- Mentor students and support their professional development, focusing on high-quality, timely research outcomes.

University Citizenship and Engagement

- Support and implement community and university-wide engagement initiatives, contributing to a positive university culture and strategic objectives.
                                                                                                                                           

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion, near completion, or enrolment for a doctoral qualification in the field of public health or a relevant field, or an equivalent accreditation and standing
  • Record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
  • Developing a profile in research and scholarship through publications and/or success in obtaining external research funding.
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research and teaching.
  • Capacity to contribute to leadership of research and administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Membership in professional bodies such as the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) is preferred but not essential.
