Position overview
The Manager, Cloud Systems role is pivotal in leading our transition to a cloud-first strategy, overseeing the design, support, maintenance and operational delivery of both on-premises and cloud-based computer and storage infrastructure. This role ensures that our systems practices not only align with organisational goals and industry standards but also leverage the latest cloud technologies to drive innovation and efficiency. You will play a key role in guiding our team through this transformation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality.
As a Manager, Cloud Systems, you will:
- Lead and manage a team of Systems Administrators, providing specialised technical direction, support, and mentorship to achieve team and project objectives.
- Ensure team members are assigned to incident resolution, request fulfilment, and delivery of operational, tactical, and strategic digital projects.
- Lead the infrastructure component of solution and enterprise architecture designs, in consultation with the architecture and other technical teams
- Perform or oversee the evaluation of new technologies and tools as opportunities for innovation, service improvement and operational excellence.
- Assess technical risk, developing and implementing mitigation strategies, ensuring high quality standards are met by all members of the Systems team.
- Educate and guide the team on cloud migration strategies, ensuring a smooth transition from on-premises to cloud environments.
- Provide strong strategic advice and influence the direction of the Systems team to align with the university’s cloud-first strategy.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Experience managing a team of technical specialists and providing technical leadership and solutions for complex projects
- Extensive Experience trouble-shooting complex systems
- Significant experience with cloud platforms, primarily Azure, but also AWS and GCP would be beneficial.
- Proven experience in cloud migrations and a deep understanding of cloud architecture and services.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and educate team members on new technologies and strategies.
- The ability to work at a high level, providing strategic advice, while also being able to get into the detail and work hands-on with the tools.
