Opportunity exists to join the dynamic team at Deakin Residential Services, Melbourne Burwood Campus. Deakin Residential Services is a 24 hour a day, 52 week a year operation.

This position is part of a team of reception staff managing the residential complex and delivering services to 1175 residents who call Deakin Burwood their home. The position provides reception, administration and program support services and includes high-quality customer service to the current and future residents, families, University staff and external contractors. The position acts as a point of contact for residents and provides information as part of the community life of the residential complex, this role also assists with the implementation of a range of activities that facilitate a living and learning community.

The roster for this casual position is across 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays.

To be successful you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in office administration and customer service experience/training residential facilities within or outside the education sector.
  • Proven successful ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of relevant and accurate administrative support to a range of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement activities, think critically and problem solve.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills in order to use university-based software programs to prepare relevant documentation.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the issues and challenges facing the University and the development of student residential services.
  • Ability to mentor young adults and genuine interest and empathy in dealing with related issues.
  • Demonstrated empathy with and understanding of issues that affect the personal and social life of University students with a focus on those living on residences.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide high-level customer service/reception responses to enquiries/requests and program support to staff and residents of Burwood residential complex, including after-hours incident response in liaison with security.
  • Perform a range of reception/administrative tasks associated with the overall operation of Burwood student residences.
  • Assist with the management of accurate and complete data within residential housing management system.
  • Assist in the promotion and implementation of events/activities and programs associated with the development of a strong sense of residential community life.
  • Assist other program support/administrative staff and Residential Services management team in the coordination of the residential volunteer program regarding appropriate activities/functions for the residential complex.
  • Ensure the implementation of all University policies that relate to the areas for which the position is responsible, particularly those relating to occupational health and safety, risk management.
  • Assist and support other reception officers, administrative staff and senior members of staff such as the General Manager.

This role requires the incumbent to apply for and maintain a Working With Children Check.
