About the role:

The Technical Officer provides technical and operational support to the School of Medicine’s academic teaching programs, by ensuring safe and efficient service delivery. The role collaborates with other members of the School of Medicine Technical Team to monitor compliance in biological and chemical management, inventory, and waste disposal.

As a Technical Officer, you will:

  • Provide technical expertise for the School’s teaching programs in Clinical Practice by setting up and packing down practical classes and examinations, including the preparation and maintenance of simulation mannequins, models and clinical equipment.
  • Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical classes clarifying expectations and responding promptly to resolve technical problems, issues, and requirements to ensure client needs met to agreed standards and timelines.
  • Understand local processes, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks, and identify key issues.
  • Provide support and advice to staff and students regarding the ordering, management, safe use, and disposal of equipment, and consumables.
  • Contribute to maintenance of teaching facilities by performing regular housekeeping tasks.
  • Monitor and maintain occupational health and safety requirements with regards to simulation and laboratory practices, including conducting regular inspections.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of a Post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a Technician; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally within a tertiary education environment.
  • Good knowledge of OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safe working practices.
