About the role:

In this role, you will design and execute a strategic communications plan to support the priorities of Deakin’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (DVCA) portfolio and staff communications University-wide. Focussing on awareness, alignment, and consistency of messaging across internal and external channels, this role aims to increase staff engagement, promote thought leadership, highlight strategic priorities, enhance the University’s reputation. You will ensure timely, relevant, and consistent messaging, build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and create compelling content that aligns with the University’s goals.

Reporting to the Lead, Communications the role will:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate a multi-channel communications and engagement plan to provide specialist support to the DVCA portfolio.
  • Understand Deakin’s complex communications landscape to contribute to a strategy that delivers timely, relevant, and consistent information to all staff.
  • Build and maintain professional and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand the existing, evolving, and proposed service delivery model.
  • Identify, write, and share compelling stories and content to inform and engage target audiences, while also recognising opportunities to elevate, align, and consolidate messaging.
  • Collect and analyse audience feedback, through both statistical and anecdotal data, to refine future communications.            

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification (or progress towards) or extensive relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience working with high-level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to create timely, accurate and engaging content for a range of internal and external channels.
  • Demonstrated experience in tailoring communications for a variety of diverse audiences, often synthesising complex content into informal language.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create articles, reports, communication plans, briefings and presentations.
  • High-level attention to detail and focus on maintaining quality, accuracy and integrity of communication output.
  • Demonstrated pro-active and solution-oriented work ethic, with high-level critical thinking and analysis skills.
  • Innovative and creative with ideas, with the ability to articulate and present these to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Experience in the production of digital content, social media campaigns and blog articles in a complex and diverse organisation.
  • Ability to manage personal and team timelines for the delivery of communication output.
