Deakin’s Research Business Development and Commercialisation division (BD&C) is a key function within the University’s Research and Innovation portfolio, establishing partnerships with industry, government other public and private sector organisations and our community; and positioning Deakin as a leader in research translation. Dedicated to developing partnerships, business development, the division is responsible for steering the strategic vision and positing Deakin as a partner of choice, connecting researchers with opportunities and managing external engagement. The team also bring innovative solutions to market through commercialising Deakin’s intellectual property and supporting entrepreneurs through our Spark program. BD&C key areas within the division are Deakin’s Recycling and Clean Energy Commercialisation Hub (REACH) Trailblazer, Business Development, Intellectual Property, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship.
The Consultant, Commercialisation will provide high-quality, thorough and responsive support to University’s commercial research and funding activities across all campuses according to the contract processes to ensure compliance with University objectives and policies.
As a Commercialisation Consultant, you will:
- Build strong professional relationships with Deakin researchers and a strong understanding of their research focus’ and activity to identify and foster external relationships for commericalisation of Deakin intellectual property
- In consultation with the Director, IP and Commercialisation, provide strategic advice regarding commercialisation of research outputs.
- Maintain strong relationships with industry partners for the commercialisation of Deakin’s pipeline of opportunities
- Conduct technology and market assessments of Deakin intellectual property, and where appropriate, negotiate commercial terms and legal agreements for commercialisation
- Manage a portfolio of commercialisation activities, as well internal and external reporting related to those opportunities
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in government, industry, or research environment
- Experience in innovation, technology or research and development
- Knowledge of business processes including but not limited to planning, intellectual property management and budget processes
- Demonstrated understanding of research and technology concepts and ability to achieve commercial outcomes
- Well-developed research and analytical skills
