Deakin’s School of Psychology is one of the largest and most progressive psychology departments in Australia. We are ERA 5 rated (well above world standard) and home to over 150 research/academic staff and 160 Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students. Our flagship research program, the SEED Lifespan Strategic Research Centre, is focused on the developmental and intergenerational factors that contribute to healthy social, cognitive and emotional development of children, adolescence, young adults and across the full lifespan.

The Professor will bring academic leadership and high-level research expertise to the School. They will specialise in any area of psychology, with clinical/mental health expertise particularly welcome. They will be expected to have a national and international profile, with a well-established track record of high impact publications and other outputs, effective team building and leadership, service to the discipline and a clear ability to attract external funding through both competitive grants and industry partnerships that aligns with the strategic research priorities of the School. They will also have an exceptional record of mentoring EMCRs and supervising Higher Degree by Research students to completion as principal supervisor.

Reporting to the Head of School and liaising with students at all levels, the Professor will interact regularly with other research and teaching staff within the School and the Faculty. They can expect to be an active member of the SEED Lifespan Strategic Research Centre and to collaborate with other researchers in the School, and more broadly in the Faculty and University.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant discipline.
  • Success in mentoring postdoctoral early and mid-career researchers (EMCRs).
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research and research supervision.
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the discipline.
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants, including category 1 grants.
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline.
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to research and research supervision.
  • Registered psychologist (AHPRA). *Desirable
  • Experience in supervision of clinical research. *Desirable
