About the Role:
The Commercialisation Consultant will form part of the growing Intellectual Property & Commercialisation team based at the Burwood and Waurn Ponds campuses. The team has added a number of new team members over the last 6 months and is renewing engagement across the University and the broader knowledge and commercialisation community in Australia. The successful candidate will, working closely with our highly qualified Intellectual Property, Business Development and Entrepreneurship teams, deliver high-quality, responsive support for the University’s commercial research and funding activities across all campuses.
As a Commercialisation Consultant, you will:
- Build strong relationships with Deakin researchers to identify and develop external opportunities for commercialising Deakin’s intellectual property.
- Implement Deakin’s innovative and streamlined approach to supporting research translation.
- Provide strategic advice on commercialising research outputs in consultation with the Director, IP & Commercialisation and the broader Business Development and Commercialisation (BD&C) division.
- Maintain strong relationships with industry and funding partners for the commercialisation of Deakin’s pipeline of opportunities.
- Assess Deakin’s intellectual property and, where appropriate, negotiate commercial terms and agreements for its commercialisation.
- Perform market analysis for commercialisation opportunities using Deakin’s suite of tools and provide recommendations for potential partnerships and pathways to market.
- Manage a portfolio of commercialisation activities and related internal and external reporting.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in government, industry, or research environment
- Experience in innovation, technology or research and development
- Knowledge of business processes including but not limited to planning, intellectual property management and budget processes
- Demonstrated understanding of research and technology concepts and ability to achieve commercial outcomes
- Well-developed research and analytical skills
