About the role
The Specialist, Platform Development (ServiceNow) plays a key role in shaping and optimising Deakin’s ServiceNow platform to meet business and operational needs. Working closely with stakeholders, the role translates functional requirements into well-designed platform solutions, ensuring the platform is configured and used in a way that is reliable, scalable, and secure.
This role requires strong ServiceNow platform knowledge, a consultative mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with a focus on improving service outcomes while maintaining platform standards and long-term sustainability.
As a ServiceNow Platform Specialist, you will:
- Plan and oversee the design and implementation of ServiceNow platform solutions, including IT Service Management (ITSM) and Customer Service Management (CSM), ensuring alignment with business needs, industry standards, and Deakin’s platform guidelines.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve service workflows, data quality, and user experience across ITSM and CSM, supporting the resolution of platform and process issues.
- Contribute to the enhancement of platform capabilities, including service workflows, integrations, and automation, ensuring solutions align with university objectives and technical standards.
- Provide functional expertise to project teams and stakeholders, advising on ServiceNow capabilities, configuration options, and best-practice use of ITSM and CSM processes.
- Gather, analyse, and document functional requirements, translating them into effective ServiceNow solutions, supporting solution demonstrations, and enabling successful user adoption.
- Ensure platform solutions comply with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, working with relevant teams to manage risk and protect institutional data.
- Stay up to date with ServiceNow platform developments, particularly across ITSM and CSM, identifying opportunities to improve service outcomes, customer experience, and business performance.
- Act as a coach within the team, contributing to shared learning, knowledge exchange, and a positive, inclusive team culture.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Extensive experience working with enterprise platforms, with strong functional expertise in ServiceNow, particularly across IT Service Management (ITSM) and Customer Service Management (CSM).
- Demonstrated ability to translate business and service requirements into effective platform solutions, balancing customer experience, operational needs, and platform standards.
- Strong understanding of ServiceNow configuration, workflows, and data models, and how these are applied within ITSM and CSM processes.
- Experience working within governance, security, privacy, and compliance frameworks to ensure platform solutions meet organisational and regulatory requirements.
- Awareness of emerging platform trends and best practices, with the ability to assess and apply them pragmatically to improve service outcomes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience advising and influencing a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
