The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced nursing professional to join Waratah Ward as the Team Leader. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of ward operations, including bed management, patient flow, staffing adjustments and effective communication among the multidisciplinary team.
The Team Leader will provide clinical leadership and work in close collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure a high level of quality patient care delivery, in line with the care values and strategic direction of the Hospital and Ramsay Health Care.
The Team Leader is not routinely allocated a patient load, however this may at times be necessary depending on staffing availability, in this situation, the Nurse Unit Manager will assume some or all of the Team Leader role for the time period.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to planning, implementing, and evaluating care practices, processes, and services
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements to uphold best practices
- Coordinate bed requests, admissions, transfers and discharges in collaboration with the NUM, nursing and medical teams
- Monitor patient flow and bed occupancy across the ward
- Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, responding promptly to escalations of patient care / clinical concerns
- Assist with ward rounds, multidisciplinary discussions and discharge planning
- Work with NUM and AHMs to manage staffing levels shortfalls, sick calls and workload allocation
- Promote a safe, supportive and professional environment in line with hospital standards
- Work closely with on-shift doctors to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to best practices.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will be a positive and effective leader with the ability to motivate others and drive clinical excellence. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to coordinate and motivate a large team of clinical and non-clinical professionals.
You will also bring:
- Relevant qualifications and Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum 4 years postgraduate experience in acute care nursing
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective role model in clinical practice
- Strong clinical decision-making ability and knowledge of escalation processes
- Excellent communication, teamwork and time management skills
- Sound Computer skills in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- An understanding of labour hours, patient acuity and staffing allocations / skill-mix
- Critical care experience desirable but not essential
- Clinical leadership experience or relevant post-graduate specialty qualifications will be highly regarded.

- Must provide a National Police Check conducted within the previous 12 months
