The Opportunity

The Regional Health Information Manager will lead the strategic direction for all Health Information Management and Clinical Coding functions across the Victorian region. This pivotal role involves close collaboration with site HIMs, Clinical Coders, fellow Regional HIMs, and Ramsay Corporate to drive and implement processes that align with and fulfill the strategic HIM and Clinical Coding plan. This position is ideal for a leader committed to advancing healthcare information standards and achieving impactful outcomes at a regional level.

About You

To excel in this role, you’ll be a strategic leader in Health Information Management, adept at guiding HIM and Clinical Coding across regional teams. Collaborative and goal-driven, you work with site teams and corporate partners to implement impactful, aligned processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in workforce planning, recruitment, development, career pathways, and retention for HIM and Coder teams, including KPI development and monitoring.
  • Develop and implement a region-wide education program for HIMs and Coders to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Provide training and mentorship for new HIMs and HIM graduates, fostering professional growth.
  • Coordinate the skills development and progression of trainee Coders to support their career advancement.
  • Work with hospital HIMs to forecast staffing requirements and ensure appropriate HIM/Coder coverage across the region.
  • Manage contracts with external coding, auditing, and health information service providers to ensure service quality and compliance.
  • Oversee the management of fund audits and monitor site response timeframes to ensure timely action.
  • Contribute to the analysis of external audits, identifying trends and opportunities for education and process improvement.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve administrative data quality, including coding, reimbursement, and clinical indicators.
  • Collaborate with regional HIMs to share best practices, reduce duplication of work, and replicate quality processes across regions.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management, such as an Associate Diploma or Bachelor of (Applied) Science in Medical Record Administration or equivalent.
  • Eligible for membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Over 5 years of experience in Health Information Management roles, with a strong focus on Clinical Coding.
  • In-depth understanding of Clinical Coding using ICD-10-AM, with up-to-date knowledge of coding standards and practices.
  • Extensive experience with patient administration systems and a thorough understanding of revenue cycle components.
  • Knowledge of private health insurance rules, legislation, and funding models.
  • Proven ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within teams.
  • Exceptional planning, organisational, and time-management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • High level of computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office, 3M CodeFinder, Turbocoder, and other coding tools, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Desirable

  • Proficient in using Meditech patient administration software to streamline health information management processes.
  • Previous experience as a Health Information Manager in a hospital setting, with a strong focus on operational efficiency and patient data accuracy.
