Payroll Team Lead — Hybrid | 4 Days WFH, 1 Day in Office | Leadership, Growth & Impact

We’re seeking an experienced and people-focused Payroll Team Lead to oversee day-to-day payroll operations, mentor a team of Payroll and Senior Payroll Officers, and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant payroll services across the organisation.
Working in a flexible hybrid environment (4 days WFH, 1 day in the office), you’ll act as the key link between the National Payroll Manager and the broader team — leading operational excellence while fostering a positive, high-performance culture built on trust, collaboration and continuous improvement.
About the role
• Lead, coach and mentor a team of payroll professionals, supporting performance, development and collaboration
• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across multiple employment arrangements
• Allocate workloads, monitor SLAs/KPIs and support quality assurance and audit readiness
• Act as an escalation point for complex payroll and compliance matters
• Review and approve payroll runs, reconciliations and reports
• Support year-end processes, reporting and reconciliations
• Drive process improvement, automation and system enhancement initiatives
• Partner closely with HR, ER, Finance and IT to ensure data accuracy, integration and service excellence
About you
• Significant experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a high-volume or complex environment
• Proven team leadership or coordination experience (2+ years)
• Advanced knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, EA interpretation, ATO, superannuation and payroll tax
• Strong HRIS / payroll systems capability, with experience supporting improvements and reporting
• Highly developed problem-solving, analytical and stakeholder management skills
• Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
• Strong attention to detail, quality assurance and audit oversight experience
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables and formulas)
