About the Role
This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the efficient and effective operational management of the hospital after-hours. You will provide clinical and operational oversight, ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and service delivery across the hospital.
This is a hands-on role, with the opportunity to support a clinical workload depending on shift requirements. You will work collaboratively with shift leaders and clinical teams, acting as a key point of contact in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager and other senior clinical managers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing after-hours clinical and operational leadership
- Supporting and guiding nursing and multidisciplinary teams
- Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
- Escalating and managing clinical or operational issues as they arise
- Supporting safe staffing, patient flow, and quality care delivery
- Acting as a role model in clinical practice and professional conduct
This role reports directly to the Director of Clinical Services.
About You
You are a confident, approachable leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You bring strong clinical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to coordinate teams and resources effectively after-hours.
This role is well suited to an experienced nurse ready to step into leadership or an established clinical leader seeking a broader operational role.
You will demonstrate:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate acute care experience
- ALS certification (or working towards)
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, support and motivate others
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound computer skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook)
Highly regarded:
- CCU/HDU/ICU or ED experience
- Postgraduate qualifications in a clinical specialty or management
