About the role:

Greenslopes Private Hospital currently has an opportunity for a Medical Officer to join our existing team of doctors to provide clinical care of patients in the intensive care unit.  Depending upon the experience of the successful applicant, the appointment may be at registrar or PHO level.  The Greenslopes ICU is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for 12 months general ICU training and recognised for cardiac specialty training.

The Intensive Care Unit Principal House Officer/ Registrar will see a wealth of medical and surgical pathology managed by senior clinicians.  The busy 18 bed ICU provides tertiary level care to critically ill patients.  There is a predominantly surgical case mix with most specialties represented: cardiothoracics, neurosurgery, vascular, hepatobiliary, orthopaedics, bariatrics, and obstetrics as well as general medicine, interventional cardiology, renal, oncology and haematology. 

Working closely with the VMOs and nursing team, duties include attending responsible for the ongoing care of all patients in the ICU and for communicating clearly with the Intensivist on duty as well the VMOs as required. This role plays an important part in supporting admissions, discharges and task resulting from the daily ward round and the ICU junior medical staff contribute to the hospital MET and cardiac arrest teams.  The role rotates through day and night shifts.

 

About you:

  • To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate strong clinical skills and the ability to manage a broad spectrum of patients.
  • You will also have exceptional communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The flexibility to handle a rotating roster through 12 hour day and night shifts.

You will also bring:

  • Current General registration with AHPRA
  • Current clinical experience in Australia as PGY4 or above
  • Previous ICU and / or anaesthetic experience is desirable
  • Demonstrated skills and clinical knowledge to manage a broad spectrum of presentations including medical and surgical patients
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment

Requirements
