About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse (CN) to join our Perioperative team in a dedicated Orthopaedic Scrub/Scout leadership role at St Andrew’s Private Hospital Ipswich. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior perioperative nurse with strong orthopaedic expertise who is ready to step into a clinical leadership position within a dynamic and growing theatre environment.

The Clinical Nurse – Orthopaedic Scrub/Scout is responsible for delivering safe, high‑quality perioperative nursing care within the orthopaedic specialty. This role provides expert clinical support during surgical procedures, ensuring effective instrumentation, workflow, and patient safety in accordance with Ramsay Health Care standards and ACORN guidelines.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and maintains clinical standards in the perioperative department to ensure the delivery of quality patient care
  • Responsible for the coordination of quality nursing care in accordance with organisation policies and procedures, as well as in accordance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
  • Participates as a supportive team member in clinical decision-making
  • Be committed to maintaining a positive culture within the department
  • Provide advanced scrub/scout nursing for a broad range of orthopaedic procedures, including trauma, joint replacement, and sports injury surgery
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and manage instruments, equipment, and implants to ensure efficient theatre flow
  • Support and guide junior staff, contributing to a positive learning environment and promoting best practice
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold strict infection prevention and sterilisation standards
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver patient‑centred care and optimise perioperative outcomes

 

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong clinical skillset in the perioperative setting with experience working as an orthopaedic Scrub /Scout nurse.

You will also bring:

  • Minimum of 4 years of recent perioperative experience in orthopaedic scrub/scout nursing
  • Current Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Proven experience in orthopaedic surgery
  • Strong knowledge of ACORN standards and perioperative safety practices
  • Well-developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical leadership
  • Demonstrates strong adaptability in dynamic situations
  • Exhibits effective decision making in real time
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal

 

Remuneration

On offer is a basis hourly rate of $54.72 – $58.82 + superannuation based on experience level and qualifications, exclusive of penalties or allowances (QLD RN/ Midwife Level 1 gr2 - gr8).

The Hospital

Requirements

  • Must provide or complete a National Police Check conducted within the previous 12 months
