About the Role
The Assistant Director of Clinical Services (ADCS) reports to and supports the Director of Clinical Services (DCS) in providing operational and clinical leadership across the hospital. The role has delegated accountability for clinical operations, patient flow, ward workforce management, financial performance of specified wards, customer experience and clinical governance, ensuring safe, high‑quality and efficient care delivery.
The ADCS will support the DCS and to assist the Hospital to meet its operational business and workforce objectives. Working amongst the leadership team, you will be responsible for the facilitating the broader business objectives, whilst offering operational support ensuring clinical excellence and positive patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of Clinical Services to develop and monitor operational plans while driving KPI achievement across clinical departments.
- Oversee daily bed forecasting and discharge planning to manage hospital demand and ensure efficient bed utilisation.
- Manage onsite patient feedback and complaints professionally, acting as a role model for patient-centred care and chairing the Consumer Committee.
- Provide direct line management to Nurse Unit Managers across multiple wards and oversee clinical workforce planning to meet patient acuity.
- Lead and coach Operations Managers, ensuring effective roster management, performance appraisals, and clear escalation pathways.
- Contribute to risk management plans and lead the onsite response to clinical incidents management.
- Support clinical governance by preparing documentation and data insights for the Medical Advisory, Peer Review and Patient Safety Committees.
- Oversee the recruitment and engagement of the hospital volunteer program and manage the casual staffing pool.
What you’ll bring:
- Relevant registration with AHPRA as Registered Nurse
- Experience in senior management leadership role or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership abilities to inspire and guide clinical teams
- Proven prioritisation of safe, efficient and sustainable day to day clinical operations with strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to complex operational challenges.
- Strong workforce performance and leadership capability
- High standards and experience of clinical governance, quality and risk management and patient safety initiatives
- Demonstrated positive impact on patient, consumer, and staff experience
